KT-20
KT-20 is an effcient and high performance water filter media for the reduction of dissolved iron and manganese compounds from raw water supplies. It maybe used in either gravity feed or pressurized water treatment systems. KT-20 water filter media acts as an insoluble catalyst to enhance the reaction between dissolved oxygen (D.O.) and the iron compounds. In ground waters the dissolved iron is usually in the ferrous bicarbonate state due to the excess of free carbon dioxide and is not filterable. KT-20, acting as a catalyst between the oxygen and the soluble iron compounds, enhances the oxidation reaction of Fe++ to Fe+++ and produces ferric hydroxide which precipitates and may be easily filtered.
KT-20 is a new brand of revolutionary advanced filtration media completely developed in India and a specialized filter media primarily used in water treatment systems to remove contaminants like iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, arsenic and other heavy metals. It is coated with high purity manganese dioxide, which acts as a catalyst to oxidize and precipitate these contaminants out of the water, making it highly effective for high-level filtration and color/odor removal.
Iron in water typically exists in two forms: ferrous (Fe²⁺, soluble) and ferric (Fe³⁺, insoluble). In its ferrous form, iron is dissolved in water and may not be easily removed by conventional filtration. The catalyst media accelerates the oxidation process, turning ferrous iron into ferric iron.
The catalyst media KT-20 typically contains materials like manganese dioxide (MnO₂) and other materials that act as catalysts. These compounds don’t get consumed in the reaction but facilitate the oxidation of iron and other metals in the water. Once the iron is oxidized, it becomes insoluble and forms particles that can be physically removed through filtration. The media may also have adsorptive properties, meaning it can attract and hold onto certain contaminants, including heavy metals like lead, arsenic, or mercury, along with iron.
KT-20 is being used in numerous systems for residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal applications worldwide, for high level water filtration, color and odor removal, iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide removal, efficient reduction of arsenic, zinc, copper, lead, radium, uranium and other radionuclides and heavy metals.
KT-20 is a brand of media used in water treatment processes, particularly for filtering and removing impurities such as iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide from water. It is made from a specific type of manganese dioxide-coated material.
Safety Considerations:
1. Chemical Stability: KT-20 is chemically stable and does not pose significant risks when used as intended in water treatment.
2. Non-Toxicity: The material is generally considered non-toxic, and it is certified for use in drinking water applications under certain conditions.
3. Handling Precautions: While KT-20 is safe to use, proper handling should still be observed: – Wear gloves and a mask to avoid inhalation of fine particles during installation and maintenance.
4. Water Quality: When used correctly in water treatment systems, KT-20 can improve water quality. It is essential to monitor the treated water to ensure that it meets safety standards. KT-20 can be considered safe for use in water treatment applications, provided that it is used according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and relevant safety and health regulations are followed.
